Week 11

Introduction

This week was a valuable and memorable experience in my teaching practice. The school conducted various activities, including the UP and High School assemblies, the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected school parliament members, and an Ozone Day awareness programme. I also had an opportunity to receive feedback from my institution teacher, who visited the school and observed my class. These experiences helped me improve my teaching skills and understand my responsibilities as a student teacher.

UP Section Assembly

The school conducted the regular UP section assembly this week. The assembly was well organised and included prayer, newspaper reading, thought for the day, and book reviews. The highlight of the assembly was the book review presented by the students. They confidently shared their thoughts about the books they had read. The assembly encouraged students to develop their reading habits, communication skills, and confidence.

High School Assembly

The High School section also conducted its regular assembly this week. The assembly included prayer, newspaper reading, book reviews, and thought for the day. The main highlight was the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected school parliament members. The newly elected School Chairperson and subcommittee members took their oaths and officially accepted their responsibilities. The ceremony provided an opportunity for students to understand the importance of leadership, discipline, and responsibility.

Mid-Day Meal Service

We actively participated in the Mid-Day Meal Service throughout the week. We worked together with the teachers to serve food to the students and ensure that the programme was conducted smoothly. We helped distribute food and maintain proper arrangements during lunchtime. This experience helped us develop teamwork, cooperation, and a sense of responsibility towards students.

Classroom Observation 

This week, my institution teacher, Ciji Ma'am, visited the school and observed my classroom teaching. She carefully observed my teaching methods, classroom management, and interaction with students. After the observation, she provided valuable feedback about my strengths and areas that needed improvement. She also pointed out the weaker areas that I should focus on in my future classes. Her suggestions helped me understand how to improve my teaching skills and become a more effective teacher.

Ozone Day Celebration

The school observed World Ozone Day to create awareness among students about the importance of protecting the ozone layer. As part of the celebration, we conducted an awareness class on ozone layer protection. The students actively participated in the class, responded to questions, and raised doubts about the topic. We encouraged them to understand the importance of protecting the environment and taking steps to reduce ozone layer depletion. The programme was an informative experience that helped students develop environmental awareness.

Reflection

This week was a meaningful learning experience in my teaching practice. The classroom observation by my institution teacher helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses and understand the areas where I need to improve. The assemblies and oath-taking ceremony helped me understand the importance of leadership and responsibility in school life. Participating in the Mid-Day Meal Service and conducting the Ozone Day awareness programme also improved my teamwork, communication, and organisational skills. Overall, this week helped me gain more confidence and develop a better understanding of my responsibilities as a future teacher.
